ITINERARY

SUPERB VIEW TO LLANGANUCO VALLEY & PORTACHUELO

After your breakfast we will pick up you at your hotel with our touristic transportation to drive to the north of Huaraz, along the rich callejon de huaylas valley, we make stop at overwhelming view point of anta to focus the most impressive view of Andes, including the exiting western Peru’s the highest peak mount Huascaran at (22,2059ft)

After that we continuing driving until old yungay, nowadays known as campo santo or buried town, which was destroyed by earthquake in 1970, it was the most terrible disaster that happen in this part of region, where about 20 thousand people disappeared and died. Then we continue driving to the east site toward the mountains, stopping at Huascaran national park control to pay the tour fees & checking.

then we continue driving into llanganuco valley between two huge granite rock walls in each sides until reach Lake llanganuco at 3850 m, where the valley start open up, with spectacular view to the background. The impressive lakes are lies between the northern flank of mount Huascaran and southern flank of mount huandoy, it has turquoise green and light blue waters, after taking pictures we follow driving along this valley heading the llanganuco lakes and driving up on several switchbacks until reach the splendid view of portachuelo at 4760 m of high.

from it offer one of the most spectacular view, it is really impressive the mountain scape to feel awarded by the glorious view around you, convene the great view & many loops descending is awesome as well, there it is a good option to have snack time enjoying the fantastic view, then we come back to yungay, on the way back we will stop to have (served lunch) finally we come back to Huaraz.

WHAT TO BRING

Clothing

• Hiking boots or hiking shoes: These are the boots you will wear on the day hike. For example a B0 is advisable.
• A couple of fast drying base-layer tops (whatever material can be long sleeve is advisable)
• Mid – layer (mid weight fleece or a synthetic insulation jacket (e.g primaloft)
• Down jacket is nice or a micro –down jacket (optional)
• A woolly hat and thermal gloves ( polar Tec)
• A light weight waterproof jacket, pants or over-trouser (Gore - Tex) are recommendable.
• Wind proof waist coat, jacket (optional)
• Short pants
• Sunglasses is essential
• At least pair of good quality hiking sock (liner sock can be to reduce abrasion and blister.
• Wear light/medium - weight trousers that allow the free movement and will dry quickly
• A good sun hat or synthetic is essential
• Neck gaiter or balaclava (wool or synthetic, mid-weight)
• 2 liters water bottle or camelback
• Good quality sun cream for using around the camp
• Lip balm
• Insect repellent

Specific Equipment

• Hiking steaks or trekking poles are useful a compact 3 section (leki or black diamond)
• Duffel bag or ruck with a carrying a capacity (around 60 - 70 liters) with padlock.
• A 25 – 35 liters day pack to carry spare clothing, snack, camera and water to drink during the day hike

Personal medical kid

• Should include: plasters, antiseptic, cream, sterile gauze and bandage, rehydration sachets, zinc oxide tape and anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen or aspirin.
• Bring paracetamol, and acetazolamide or Diamox for treating mild symptoms of (AMS).
• Have loperamide is a good idea in case you get the runs
• Antibiotic such as: ciprofloxacin or Bactrim for bacterial stomach bugs.
• A small roll of adhesive tape, cough drops.
