OVERVIEW

Laguna 69 is a stunning blue glacial lake that lies at the end of this beautiful and serene day hike. The final destination offers a breath-taking view of the lake, which is hugged by massive snowcapped peaks, jagged rock outcrops and cascading waterfalls. Without question, it is one of the most impressive day hike destinations in Peru's Cordillera Blanca and one of the best day hikes in South America. The splendor of this hike’s natural beauty is so impactful that you will remember it for years to come!

ITINERARY

Mesmerizing Day Hike to Laguna 69

We will pick up you at your hotel with our private transportation and drive north of Huaraz city, along the lush Callejon de Huaylas valley; we make a stop at Anta to take in the impressive view of Andes about the exiting western Peruvian the highest peak of mount Huascaran (22,2059ft), after that we continuing driving until Yungay. From Yungay we will drive up on a dirt road toward the mountains to the east until we reach the park control; later we will drive into Llanganuco valley between huge granite rock walls; we will pass by incredible landscape view of Llanganucos lakes until Sebollapampa with gorgeous views of the nearby peaks of Chacraraju & Chopicalqui.

After Sebollapampa, we will start walking up the valley on a well-defined trail; for the first hour, the trail will have a gentle grade and will cross several streams; the gentle grade will give way to a series of switchbacks that will offer beautiful scenery and stunning views of snowcapped peaks.

Upon reaching the final ridge, we will be rewarded with views of the magnificent blue Laguna 69 at 4550 m; it will be surrounded by snowcapped peaks and trickling waterfall into the lake. At the lake shore, we will soak up the spectacular mountain scape, which will be highlighted with views of majestic mount Chacraraju; superb photos are shooting here! We will also enjoy delicious lunch lakeside.

We will return via the same trail and take in entirely new perspectives of this most astonishing mountain scenery, including the summits of Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Chacra Raju and Yanapacha. The trail will end at Sebollapampa, where we will begin the drive back your hotel.

WHAT TO BRING

Clothing

• Hiking boots or hiking shoes: These are the boots you will wear on the day hike. For example a B0 is advisable.
• A couple of fast drying base-layer tops (whatever material can be long sleeve is advisable)
• Mid – layer (mid weight fleece or a synthetic insulation jacket (e.g primaloft)
• Down jacket is nice or a micro –down jacket (optional)
• A woolly hat and thermal gloves ( polar Tec)
• A light weight waterproof jacket, pants or over-trouser (Gore - Tex) are recommendable.
• Wind proof waist coat, jacket (optional)
• Short pants
• Sunglasses is essential
• At least pair of good quality hiking sock (liner sock can be to reduce abrasion and blister.
• Wear light/medium - weight trousers that allow the free movement and will dry quickly
• A good sun hat or synthetic is essential
• Neck gaiter or balaclava (wool or synthetic, mid-weight)
• 2 liters water bottle or camelback
• Good quality sun cream for using around the camp

Specific Equipment

• Hiking steaks or trekking poles are useful a compact 3 section (leki or black diamond)
• Duffel bag or ruck with a carrying a capacity (around 60 - 70 liters) with padlock.
• A 25 – 35 liters day pack to carry spare clothing, snack, camera and water to drink during the day hike

• Have loperamide is a good idea in case you get the runs
