BRIEF ITINERAY OF THE TREK PROGRAM HUARAZ – HUAYHUASH CIRCUIT – HUARAZ

DAY 1: Huaraz (3100m)- Huanucopampa (3500m).
DAY 2: Huanucopampa – queropalca (3800) - carhuacocha (4100m).
DAY 3: Rest Day or day off at Lake Carhuacocha (optional hike to siula lake)
DAY 4: carhuacocha – carhuac pass (4640m) – jancapampa (4230m).
DAY 5: Jancapampa – cacananpunta pass (4690m) – cuartelhuain (4170m)
DAY 6: Cuartelhuain - Sanbunya Pass (4750m) - Lake Jahuacocha (4050m)

ITINERARY

CAPTIVATING WILDERNESS TREK AROUND CORDILLERA HUAYHUASH

TREK PROGRAM HUARAZ – HUAYHUASH CIRCUIT – HUARAZ

DAY 1: Huaraz (3100m)- Huanucopampa (3500m).

In the morning we will pick up you at your hotel with our private transportation to drive south Huaraz on the paved way following the same way that go from Huaraz to lima until conococha, from it we deviate to the east using the anta mina high way until reach la union huanuco then we continue driving on dirt route until reach the wide grass plateau of huanucopampa at 3736m, in the afternoon we will visit the exiting complexity archaeological of Incas town of Huanuco viejo, with amazing rock structure. Overnight camp at huanucopampa. Meals: S / L / D

DAY 2: Huanucopampa – queropalca (3800) - carhuacocha (4100m).
After the breakfast we will continue driving toward queropalca village, where our donkey and donkeys drivers awaits, then we start walking upon gradual ascent along the pleasant wide grass valley of queropalca with wondrous mountain scape to valleys ahead as we reach lake Carhuacocha greeted by huge peaks, as soon as we reach the hill the superb view come in front us with spectacular emerald green Laguna Carhuacocha comes into view, all huge resplendent peaks dominating the skyline to the west – while near the lakeside an idyllic camp site awaits, with overwhelming view the summits are absolutely jaw dropping Overnight camp at Lake Carhuacocha. Meals: B / S / L / D

DAY 3: Rest Day or day off at Lake Carhuacocha
We spend an extra day at spectacular Lake Carhuacocha greeted by huge pecks resplendent into the lake.

Optional 01: Hike up to visit the three spectacular lakes such as: ganrajanca, siula and quesilojanca, which are lies just below of huge east faces of mount Yerupaja and mount Siula Grande.

Option02: easy hike around the Lake Carhuacocha, try fishing trout.

Option 03: simple take day off at the camp site to enjoy the most dramatic view.

DAY 4: carhuacocha – carhuac pass (4640m) – jancapampa (4230m).
This day we walk up on our first day pass on steady ascent until reach the carhuac pass, again the view is superb about great summit of: mythic siula grande, majestic yerupaja, and jirishanca, then we descent is on easy alpine grass meadow, from the camp spot offer incredible view to the valley ahead. Optional if you feel fitter we extend one hour & half to hike until reach laguna mitucocha, which is lies just below of mount shirijanca, ahead of jancapampa valley. Overnight camp at jancapampa. Meals: B / S / L / D

DAY 5: Jancapampa – cacananpunta pass (4690m) – cuartelhuain (4170m)
This day the trail climb up on colorful quebrada caliente, the finale part of the trail winds up on loose gravel rock just before the pass. As soon as we reach the rocky Cacanan punta Pass oft windy spot (4690m), over it we enjoy the impressive view of the each valleys in front & behind, there will be a great opportunity to observe majestic condors soaring over the pass as well, then we descent on zigzagging path rocky & loose terrain becomes gradual in a final just before the camp. Overnight at Cuatelhuain. Meals: B / S / L / D

DAY 6: Cuartelhuain - Sanbunya Pass (4750m) - Lake Jahuacocha (4050m)
After our breakfast we will walk up toward punta sambunya pass on steep path, through abundant lupines as soon as we reach the pass the splendid mountain scape comes into the view, tremendous view of majestic Jerupaja & Rasac in front us, cerro huacrish towering as well, there is other one of the best places to shoot panorama pictures, to enjoyment splendid vista, where the hiker is really rewarded by the spectacles of the nature, then the path drops on steep and loose terrain until reach solteracocha ahead of jahuacocha valley, follow walking down on pleasant grass valley until jahuacocha camping spot, lies at lakeside. Last night camp at Lake Jahuacocha. Meals: B / S / L / D

DAY 7: Jahuacocha - Pampa Llamac (4270m) - Llamac - Huaraz
After early breakfast and completing successfully our Andean circuit we will walk down on pleasant grass valley, then we walk up on the gradual ascend trail through quenual and bromeliads until reach high point of Pampa Llamac pass at 4270m, where we will rest for taking last pictures, after that we will descend dropping on slope trail until Llamac Village, where our private transportation is waiting us to comeback Huaraz FINISH OUR TREK. Back to Huaraz for a nice shower and some rest; enjoy a good dinner in town celebrating after trekking success. Overnight at hotel. Meals: B / S / L

WHAT TO BRING

WHAT TO BRING FOR TREKKING

    CLOTHING
  • Walking boot or hiking shoes: These are the boots you will wear on the trek over high passes, then you'll need a couple shoes of handling a bit of slippery snow and very rough and rocky trails. For example a B0 or B1 ankle-high boot.
  • A stiff pair of trail running (trainers or sneakers to wear around the camp)
  • For multiday treks is advisable a pair of sandals to wear around camp instead of sneakers
  • A couple of fast drying base-layer tops (made of synthetic material is preferable instead of cotton or wool t-shirt) (whatever material can be long sleeve is advisable)
  • Mid – layer (mid weight fleece or a synthetic insulation jacket (e.g primaloft) as well as full of thermal underwear to wear in the evening.
  • Wear light/medium - weight trousers that allow the free movement and will dry quickly.
  • Down jacket is nice or a micro –down jacket
  • A woolly hat and thermal gloves ( a pair polar Tec)
  • A light weight waterproof jacket shell proof ( gore - tex)
  • A light weight waterproof pants or over-trouser (Gore - Tex) are recommendable.
  • Wind proof waist coat or jacket (optional)
  • Light weight cotton or synthetic pants / trouser: for hiking in the mountains or for hiking around camp Shorts are Ok.
  • A pair of high quality sunglasses is essential (dark sport sunglasses) spectrum 3 for trekking
  • At least 3 pairs of good quality hiking socks (liner sock can be to reduce abrasion and blister.
  • Sun hat: Or baseball cap with bandanna safety pinned to it to keep the sun off your face and neck.
  • Thermal liners
  • Neck gaiter or balaclava (wool or synthetic, mid-weight) the neck gaiter is more versatile and can serve as ear band
