OVERVIEW

The 4 days version Lares Trek is a great alternative rather than Inca trail or Salcantay ending at lost of Incas city - Machu Picchu. The Lares valley is one of the most picturesque villages in the southern of Cusco, where the trekker will live unforgettable experience. This 4-day newly developed itinerary offers an outstanding combination of amazing mountain scape in a remote area, glacier lagoons, cloud-forest valleys, visiting to authentic Quechua communities as Wacawasi, Willog, Patacancha where the hikers will have the great chance to get in touch with Andean residents and learn about their traditions and life-styleand, end the trek reaching Aguas Calientes on the third day. The last day is devoted to the visit of the impressive Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

Note: trekking Salcantay trek is advisable for any kind of adventure lovers, who are looking for enjoy great hiking experience but with previous acclimatization to the altitude.

SUGGESTION: please understand before trekking lares – macchu picchu you should complete a good acclimatization process to avoid altitude sickness, let us know to give you a suitable advice.

ADVICE FOR HIKERS
Is recommendable have yellow fiber vaccination (malaria) because you will walk on the jungle eyebrow. We never hear news about problems with malaria in this zone but are better to be prepared.

ITINERARY

TREK PROGRAM CUSCO –LARES TREK - MACCHUPICCHU – CUSCO 4 DAYS

Included meals: B = Breakfast / L = lunch / D = Dinner

DAY 1: CUSCO - LARES VALLEY 3250 M - HOT SPRING – WACAWASI 4450 M
At 6AM private vehicle will pick you from your hotel, transfer through the sacred valley, archaeological remains, local handcraft-markets, Andean markets, cultivated Inca terraces, small villages, The Sacred Valley is one of the most fertile places in South America with one of the best products such as maize which is the first export-product of this area.and then we pass to the highest point of this trek know Huacacasi (4450m), from there we start descending toward to Lares valley (3250m), where we will have time to enjoy the medicinal hot springs of Lares (3200m). The Lunch is provided there as well. Here will meet the rest of our trek team, Cook and horsemen, horse to carry all food, our backpacks, and the camping gear. From there we’ll start hiking up until Huaca Wasi (3600m) where is located our camping spot. Our transfer-time around 5 hours, Three hours walk to Wacawasi, there will be a nice chance to meet the local residents and they will show their artisan weaving exhibition and lessons about its ancient techniques. Overnight at wacawasi camping spot. Meal: / L / D

DAY 2: WACAWASI - ABRA IPSAY 4480 M – PATACANCHA 3720 M
Today is the longest & hardest day we will have breakfast around 6AM with scenic view of the Andes. After early breakfast we will start hiking with a moderate up-hill climb to reach to the highest point of our trek, Ipsay Pass (4,480m/14,690ft). The climb is quiet hard however with indescribable panoramic view of snow-capped peaks of Pitusiray, Sawasiray, Chicon and surrounding by stunning landscape from the pass we will enjoy the spectacular views of snow-capped peaks, lakes glacier lakes, isolated Andean communities, llamas and alpacas. After time to enjoy this beautiful sight, we descend to Ipsay Lagoon for lunch. While descending we pass through Andean communities, the residents have a large knowledge of natural agriculture and ancient ways of working textile so that their colorful clothes, unique from this region. After 7 – 8 hours walking we will reach the camping spot at small village of patacancha (3720m). Overnight at patacancha camping spot. Meal: B / L / D

DAY 3: PATACANCHA – PUMAMARKA 3200 M - OLLANTAYTAMBO (SACRED VALLEY) 2850 M - AGUAS CALIENTES 2050 M
This day after our breakfast we will start hiking passing on the way through the friendly local communities and several villages as: Willoq (3400m), Pumamarca (3200m) and others. Then we continue walking and arrive to Ollantaytambo (2850m). From it we will take the train backpacker service to Aguas Calientes (2050m). Spend the night at the selected hotel. Overnight at aguas calientes hotel. Meal: B / L / D

DAY 5: AGUAS CALIENTES–MACCHUPICHU 2490 M – AGUAS CALIENTES – CUSCO
This last day will start at 5am and after breakfast short hike up around an hour and half or take a travel by bus shared service around 25 minutes for ($12usd) to Machu picchu archaeological site whatever option is available, one hour is escorted by our guide to this amazing complex, leisure time to explorer on your own around 2 hours visit to The great hike to Huayna Picchu, sun gate, or moon temple. Generally at 1pm visitors return & start hiking down or by tourist bus to Aguas Calientes, to have your lunch (OPTIONAL) after the lunch around . 16:00 hrs we take our return train to Ollantaytambo with bus connection arriving to Cusco around 8:00 pm. overnight at cusco. Meal: B / L

Please the cost of bus service is not included in our service for aguas calientes – macchupicchu – aguas calientes , if you decide take that service will be your own expenses and please you should wait to meet with the guide at the gate of archaeological site.

    CLOTHING
  • Hiking shoes: These are the boots you will wear to approach to base camp. For example a B0 is advisable.
  • Socks: We recommend you bring 2 changes of socks for your hiking shoes and 2 changes for your climbing boots. Many people like to wear a thin liner sock. This can reduce abrasion and blisters
  • Lightweight Synthetic gloves a pair of polar - tec
  • Sun hat: Or baseball cap with bandanna safety pinned to it to keep the sun off your face and neck
  • Balaclava or Neck gaiters: Wool or synthetic, mid-weight, the neck gaiter is more versatile, and can serve as the ear band.
  • Light weight cotton or synthetic pants / trouser: for hiking in the mountains
  • A couple of fast drying base-layer tops (whatever material can be long sleeve is advisable)
  • Wear light/medium - weight trousers that allow the free movement and will dry quickly
  • Fleece jacket (polar Tec):
  • Pants shell proof with zipper (gore – tex). it’s worth having some kind of light synthetic climbing pant with a hard finish. The slightly stretchy "Schoeller" type fabric is ideal. Patagonia, Mammut, Eider, Millet, Marmot

  • CAMPING EQUIPMENT
  • Sleeping bag: For camps about 3000 meters, you'll want a bag rated to about -5°C. For higher camps you'll want to go warmer yet.
  • Foam sleeping pad or a therm- a – rest (prolite or Neo Air for a better night sleep), which is the best for more comfort at high camp.
  • Water bottle
  • Headlamp or head torch with extra batteries (we recommended all use LED technology) Petzl's or black diamond.
  • Good quality sun cream (Sunscreen) for using around the camp
  • Lip balm
  • I nsect repellent


  • SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT
  • Hiking steaks or trekking poles are useful a compact 3 section (leki or black diamond they are lither and durable) (rubber covers required in order not to damage the Inca Trail)
  • A back pack (around 30 - 40 liters) with padlock, to carry spare clothing, snack, camera and water, sleeping bag and other personal things.
  • You also need to bring your original passport on the trek because you will need to show before enter to Machu Picchu

    Have loperamide is a good idea in case you get the runs
