OVERVIEW
Choquequirao Complex is one of the most popular treks in Cusco area. It’s located on the skirt of mount Salkantay at 3030 M surrounded by peaks of Yamana, Ampay, Chokecarpu, Pumasiyo and Panta, to the left Apurimac River. In the Incas Empire, it was united and completely in communication with Machu Picchu as a network communication. This incredible trek offer fantastic natural beauty valleys, snow-capped peaks a lots of variety of plants, birds and animals. Choquequiraw was considered as "The Last Refuge of the Inca Empire", where the Visitors can observe an incredible hydraulic system, ceremonial and agricultural use. The geographic location of Choquequirao in reference to other complexes of the same period would tend to indicate that its function was that of an Inca enclave toward the valleys of the Apurímac River. ADVICE FOR HIKERS
Is recommendable have yellow fiber vaccination (malaria) because you will walk on the jungle eyebrow. We never hear news about problems with malaria in this zone but are better to be prepared.

ITINERARY
TREK PROGRAM CUSCO – CHOQUEKIAO TREK – CUSCO 4 DAYSIncluded meals: B = Breakfast / L = lunch / D = Dinner
DAY 1: CUSCO - CACHORA 2800 M – CHIQUISCA 1800 M
At 5AM we pick up from your hotel and we leave from Cusco in our private transportation after 5 hours driving we arrive to San Pedro de Cachora at 2800 M, where we will have breakfast for additional cost. There we will meet with the rest of our team (cook, horses and horse handlers). Begin the long trek which will take us between 7 to 8 hours. Take around 2 hour until reach the capuliyoc pass at 2915 m, where we will have lunch with incredible view of stretching deep Apurimac valley, & from capuliyoc we will have the first view of choquekirao complex looming to faraway, then, we will then descend toward Coca Masana at 2330 m. Finally, we arrive at Chiquiskä at 1900 m, close to the Apurimac River Along the way we will be able to observe a diversity of flora and fauna that garnishing our trek. Length = 18 km / trekking time = 7 – 8 hours Overnight camp at chiquisca. Meal: / L / D
DAY 2: CHIQUISCA – MARANPATA 2850 M - CHOQUEKIRAO RUINS 3035 M
After a good breakfast we will walk down for about an hour to cross the Apurimac River in the cable car, just for some more fun! Then, we will start hiking uphill toward Santa Rosa at 2115 m, where we will take a break for resting after the hard climb. This stretch valley is the hardest, and it will take three hours. When we are ready, we will continue up to Maranpata 2850 m, we will have lunch and take another rest around 2 PM. Along the way, we will observe many orchids and wild flowers as well as several kind of birds. Length = 17 km / trekking time = 6 – 7 hours. Overnight camp at maranpata . Meal: B / L / D
DAY 3: CHOQUEKIRAO RUINS – CHIQUISCA 1800 M
Breakfast will be ready early, around 6:00 AM then start waking up in the middle of the Andes is one of the delights of spending these days as a trekker! It is an amazing experience!, and afterward we will walk from Maranpata to Choquequirao 3035 M ; 2-hours hike. The wildlife in Choquequirao is already active by sunrise and will fill up you with a deep joy! We will arrive at the archaeological site in time to enjoy the impressive views of the deep canyons and maybe even have the opportunity to see a Condor flying nearby. We will walk around the archaeological complex once we arrive, completely guided tour of Chokequirao = "Golden Cradle" is considered the Sister City of Machu Picchu, by the similarities. It hangs 1500 meters above the Apurimac Canyon. Machu Picchu hangs above the Urubamba canyon. It is at the same latitude and it is a large citydel with more of 8 hectares, only one third has been uncovered and every day the archeologists find something else of interest. We will observe the three levels of the excavated ruin, where we can appreciate houses, terraces and other parts of this late Inca-town, like the ruin in progress of excavation. Around 3 PM, we head to Maranpata to have lunch and rest with the magnificent view. Soon we start the descent into the forest back along the same trail to the cable car crossing. Our base camp for the night is called Chiquisca. Length = 22 km / trekking time = 7 – 8 hours Overnight camp at chiquisca. Meal: B / L / D
DAY 4: CHIQUISCA – CACHORA 2800 M - CUSCO
After early breakfast we will walk up at 6am accompanied by first sun rising over the Apurimac canyon, we will spend most of the day heading back to the beginning of the trek. We will return along the same route to Cachora. During our journey, we will observe the exotic flora and fauna & the impressive Apurimac canyon. After getting to Capuliyoc where the climbing path finishes, we will have lunch. We have our final view of the apurimac valley and Choquequirao to far away. It will take us another four hours to get the village of Cachora at around 3pm. In Cachora our private transportation will wait us to take back to Cusco. Length = 17 km / trekking time = 6 – 7 hours. CLOTHING
- Hiking shoes: These are the boots you will wear to approach to base camp. For example a B0 is advisable.
- Socks: We recommend you bring 2 changes of socks for your hiking shoes and 2 changes for your climbing boots. Many people like to wear a thin liner sock. This can reduce abrasion and blisters
- Lightweight Synthetic gloves a pair of polar - tec
- Sun hat: Or baseball cap with bandanna safety pinned to it to keep the sun off your face and neck
- Balaclava or Neck gaiters: Wool or synthetic, mid-weight, the neck gaiter is more versatile, and can serve as the ear band.
- Light weight cotton or synthetic pants / trouser: for hiking in the mountains
- A couple of fast drying base-layer tops (whatever material can be long sleeve is advisable)
- Wear light/medium - weight trousers that allow the free movement and will dry quickly
- Fleece jacket (polar Tec):
- Pants shell proof with zipper (gore – tex). it’s worth having some kind of light synthetic climbing pant with a hard finish. The slightly stretchy "Schoeller" type fabric is ideal. Patagonia, Mammut, Eider, Millet, Marmot
