Our story — from the founder

"The mountains have not only been my workplace, but also my school, my inspiration, and my way of life."

Fredy Lliuya

Founder & Lead Mountain / Trekking Guide — Certified UIAGM–IFMGA & AGMP

More than a company, Andes Adventure Holidays is a dream born in the mountains — shaped by resilience, dedication and a deep love for the Andes, and grown into a family project committed to sharing their beauty, culture and spirit with travelers from around the world.

When the dream began

A legacy built through a passion for the mountains.

What began as a personal journey grew, step by step, into a trusted and certified adventure operator.

2011

The first trails

Before founding the company, Fredy worked in Huaraz tourism, listening to travelers from all over the world — and that inspired him to discover these routes for himself. In 2011 he began guiding day hikes and multi-day treks. His English allowed him to lead international groups at a time when few local guides could. Guiding quickly became his passion — it never felt like work — and, little by little, that dream became a plan.

2016

The birth of Andes Adventure Holidays

The name was chosen with care — Andes for the vast range and its majestic summits, Adventure for challenge and exploration, and Holidays for the chance to disconnect from routine and reconnect with nature. In early 2016, with only an old laptop and a clear vision, Fredy built the first website. That June, our first group arrived through Italian guide Martino Moretti — twelve climbers aiming for Ishinca and Huascarán, an important milestone for the company.

2018

Friends from Charleston

We welcomed Mike and Lisa for their second trip to Peru — early supporters we still keep in touch with today, and our very first clients to leave positive reviews on Tripadvisor. We'll always be grateful for the encouragement they gave the company in its early years.

2019 – 2020

Back to the mountains — and officially launched

In 2019 we connected with the Norwegian operator Eco Expeditions, led by Geir Ulsletten. Then in 2020 everything stopped almost overnight: the COVID-19 pandemic made tourism disappear, and for nearly two years there was no work.

Despite the difficult times, the business survived online — and we kept the dream alive.

2023 – 2024

Back to the mountains — and officially launched

In 2023 we resumed operations, and Fredy guided a Brazilian couple, Marlon and Claudia, up Nevado Mateo — who later wrote about the experience, recognizing his work as a professional mountain guide.

In 2024 Andes Adventure Holidays officially launched with all formal and legal permits. From the very beginning Fredy was everything — guide, secretary, accountant, logistics coordinator and marketing manager — and today personally leads most climbing expeditions and mountaineering courses, maintaining a 98% success rate.
